Another video showed a dog being run to the ground with its mouth frozen shut.

Hugh Neff is the leading rusher in the 2019 Iditarod. However, his decision to scratch the race at the Ruby checkpoint on Friday was based on his concerns about the safety of his team. Hugh and his eleven dogs were the second team into Ruby on Friday morning, roughly half-way into the race. Neff said he made the decision after talking with Iditarod race marshal Mark Nordman.

His dog Solo's victory in the Iditarod
